As part of the blog my aim is to get guest bloggers and let them share their stories. One of my really good friends has decided to share her story and theUPSIDE to her day. Here it is;
Hi Everyone, I’m Olivia. When Jen asked me to be a guest I was more than happy to accept. I absolutely love the concept of this blog. Mental health is so important and can often be overseen, in fact too often. It really is just the little things in life that can make people happy.
So first off a little bit about me. I am 26yrs old from Douglas, Cork. I decided to fly the nest last summer and have been living in Toronto, Canada since. For now, I absolutely love it here but of course there is time when it is tough. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
By no means am I that person who is always happy, I am only human and there is obviously sometimes I just want to give out about everything, (Trust me I love a good rant!!) But the majority of the time I try to be positive and appreciate the people and things around me. My motto is, if your not happy with yourself you cannot be happy with anyone else. So first things first, get yourself in order then spread the happiness 🙂
When Jen asked me what the upside of my day was I genuinely had to think about it… One thing in particular stood out in my mind. Last friday, -20degrees and heavy snow in Toronto. I was on my lunch, I spotted a homeless man and his dog outside a shop. I couldn’t help to look at this man, he had taken off his own jacket and wrapped his dog in it. I could see by his face that he absolutely cherished this dog. I was just so taken a back by this man.
After my lunch, on my way back to my warm office with very little worries I thought to myself I want to do something to help him. . I thought about giving him money, but then decided to buy him some hot soup. I gave him the soup and he was genuinely so grateful. We exchanged a few words, he was such a kind, caring man,
For me , that was the upside of my day. So as I said before it really is just the little things, smile at people, be nice, laugh, have fun, spend money on experiences and enjoy life to the fullest.
